Please join Adrienne Davis, Washington University vice provost and William M. Van Cleve Professor of Law; Yvonne Osei, artist and adjunct faculty at Webster University; and Meredith Malone, associate curator, Kemper Art Museum, for a discussion of contemporary artist Robert Longo’s flag, Untitled (Dividing Time) (2017), now on view outside the Museum.

Untitled (Dividing Time) is one of sixteen specially commissioned flags for Pledges of Allegiance, a national public art series organized by Creative Time in New York. In addition to a Q&A with the audience, the speakers will provide context for Longo’s appropriation of the American flag, conceived in direct response to the current political climate, as one in a long line of artistic engagements with this national symbol.

Free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided, and attendees are welcome to bring bag lunches.
