German artist Katharina Grosse discusses painting, its relationship to architecture, and her dramatic 2016 commission for Washington University’s Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center. The piece was created as part of the university’s Art on Campus program, which sets aside one percent of eligible Danforth Campus capital projects and renovations for public art. The program is administered by the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.
